مهدی مقیم‌نژاد، مدرس، پژوهشگر و عکاس معاصر در سال ۱۳۵۵ در شهر بابل متولد شد. این هنرمند دانش‌آموخته‌ی کارشناسی گرافیک (ارتباط تصویری)، کارشناسی ارشد عکاسی و دکتری رشته‌ی پژوهش هنر از دانشگاه هنر تهران است. مقیم‌نژاد که از سال ۱۳۸۰ در مقاطع کارشناسی و کارشناسی ارشد رشته‌های عکاسی، گرافیک و سینما در مراکزی چون دانشگاه هنر تهران، دانشکده هنرهای زیبا دانشگاه تهران، موسسه آموزش عالی سوره و دانشکده هنر و معماری دانشگاه آزاد مشغول به تدریس بود از سال ۱۳۸۹ با درجه استادیار به عضویت هیئت علمی دانشکده هنرهای تجسمی دانشگاه هنر تهران درآمد.

از مقیم‌نژاد تاکنون هفت عنوان کتاب و بیش از یکصد عنوان مقاله درباره‌ی مباحث نظری هنر و عکاسی به زبان های فارسی و انگلیسی به چاپ رسیده است که از مشهورترین  کتاب‌های او می‌توان به ترجمه‌ی «نشانه شناسی عکاسی»، «هنر در عصر دیجیتال» و تالیفاتی چون «عکاسی و نظریه» و گزیده‌ی مقالات‌اش به نام «در ستایش امر واقعی» اشاره کرد. او همچنین گردآورنده و مترجم کتاب شعر معاصر آمریکا با عنوان «جایی که غروب درنگ می‌کند» و شاعر مجموعه‌ی «باران شغال» است که در سال ۱۳۹۶ نامزد دریافت جایزه ی شعر احمد شاملو شد. دنیای عکاسی مقیم‌نژاد را می‌توان گفت‌و گویی با تاریخ و فرهنگ ایران توصیف کرد. او با یک روش فتومونتاژ هایپررئالیستی و بسیار شخصی که نام «واقع‌نمایی‌ها» را بر آن گذاشت از سال ۱۳۸۰ تاکنون تلاش کرده تا در مجموعه‌های متعدد نگاهی پرسش‌گرانه و مفهومی به سویه‌های گوناگون تاریخ ایران داشته باشد. عکس‌های مقیم‌نژاد معمولا تلفیقی از چشم‌اندازهای طبیعی و به خصوص بیابانی، ویرانه‌ها و عناصر و نمادهای فرهنگی ایران است. او تاکنون اثارش را در چهار نمایشگاه انفرادی در گالری برگ (۱۳۸۱)، گالری شماره هفت(۱۳۸۸)، و گالری محسن(۱۳۹۲ و ۹۳) و در بیش از پنجاه نمایشگاه گروهی در داخل و خارج از ایران به نمایش گذاشته است. آثار مقیم‌نژاد تاکنون در حراج‌ها و اکسپوهای گوناگونی حضور داشته‌اند و چند اثر او در گنجینه‌ی دائمی موزه هنرهای معاصر تهران نگهداری می‌شوند.

Mehdi Moghimnejad, lecturer, researcher and Iranian contemporary photographer was born in 1976 in Babol. He has a bachelor's degree in graphic design (visual communication), a master's degree in photography and a doctorate in art studies from Tehran University of Arts (TUA). Moghimnejad has been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in photography, graphic design and cinema since 2001 at universities such as Tehran University of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Tehran, Sooreh Institute of Higher Education and Faculty of Art and Architecture, Azad University. He became member of the Faculty of Visual Arts, Tehran University of Arts in 2010 with the rank of assistant professor. Seven books and more than one hundred articles on theoretical topics of art and photography have been published in Persian and English by Moghimnejad so far. Among his most famous books are translations of "Semiotics of Photography", "Art in the Digital Age" and authorship such as "Photography and Theory" and his selection of articles entitled "In Praise of the Real". He is also the compiler and translator of a book on contemporary American poetry entitled "Where the Sunset Delays" and the poet of the "The rain of jackal", which was nominated for the Ahmad Shamloo Poetry Award in 2017. Moghimnejad’s world of photography can be described as a creative conversation with the history and culture of Iran. With a hyper-realistic and very personal photomontage method, which he named "Verisimilitudes", since 2000, he has tried to have a questioning and conceptual look at various aspects of Iranian history in various series. His constructed photographs are usually a combination of natural landscapes, especially deserts, ruins, and elements and symbols of Iranian culture. So far, he has exhibited his works in four solo exhibitions in Barg Gallery (2002), Gallery No. 7 (2009), and Mohsen Gallery (2013 and 2014) and in more than fifty group exhibitions inside and outside Iran.
